Parent Presentation rehearsals!

The learners from our Athlone upper Primary studio, have been busy preparing for their parent presentation. They have been working very hard,

and with a bit more practice, will definitely blow their parents away!

Today we explored the different emotions and feelings a person may have, looking at how we can recognize these in the people around us. The children used their body language and facial expressions to demonstrate and express each of the given emotions. They did a great job, take a look!

A few more pictures from one of the groups 'Luv-sum Noodles' T.V advertisement jingle!

Dramatic Arts and theatre education helps to increase empathy and develop tolerance of others in learners. The ability to empathise or to understand another persons circumstances or feelings, is a very important skill to obtain in todays society.

 The children learn this skill not only through experimental role-play in the introductory activities, but also through the mini-scripts and whole class structured or improvised scenes they take part in. During these activities they are required to take on a new character with a whole different outlook, dealing with a separate scenario and set of emotions.

They are therefore given the opportunity to portray somebody else who is very different from themselves and this is what helps to develop their empathy skills as well as their tolerance and understanding of others.

Our principal, Claire Snyders, has been very busy this term working with the St Charles grade four and five boys. They have been preparing for their 'Art Blast' festival which is based on a fantasy theme.
 
The grade five boys will be showcasing two pieces .They were given an object which they had to use to represent another object and it's use, other than the original object. The boys were given a chance to be creative and there were a lot of great ideas in each group which were put together to create the pieces.
 
The first grade 5 class, were given a balloon as their object. Some boys saw the balloons as the pumpkins used during Halloween, others saw the balloon as a rugby ball, another group saw the balloons as the wheels on a car, and the last group saw the balloons as the different planets. 

The second grade 5 class were given a broom as their object to interpret. One group saw the broom as a witches flying broomstick, another group saw it as a wizards wand, another group changed the broom into a cricket bat,  another changed it into warrior spears and guns, and the last group saw the broom as a microphone and guitar.

The grade four boys will be performing a poem entitled 'The Cleaning Machine'. Take a look at some of their "cleaning machines" they created using their bodies and voices.

  T.V Commercials : 'Luv-sum Noodles'.

 The learners had to create a television commercial based on a new fast food product, 'Luv-sum  Noodles', where one simply adds hot water and stir!

The learners had to take into account all the elements which make a T.V commercial successful, with the market of the product being aimed at 10-18 years olds.

In today's highly competitive world, the skills and qualities that we develop through creativity and ingenuity are required to help us work more effectively together. 

It is extremely important for our children to be able to come up with new ideas and solve everyday problems. This becomes important for people on a personal level too, as it plays a critical role in learning and personal development, as well as building self-esteem. 

Learning through books does not hold all the value in today's world that it once did. Learning how to be more creative and therefore more adaptable is what prepares children for life beyond the classroom!
